When Jack Cunningham was born on July 23, 1915, in Portsmouth, Ohio, his father, Maurice, was 24 and his mother, Bessie, was 22. His sister Dorothy Louise was born on May 1, 1927, in Albany, Ohio, when Jack was 11 years old. He was born in Portsmouth, Ohio but also lived in Albany, Athens, and New Boston, Ohio. Jack Cunningham married Emma Pellegrinon in Scioto, Ohio, on April 4, 1941, when he was 25 years old. He, unfortunately, died on the USS HARRIS of wounds received in action on USS COLUMBIA (CL-56) 1-6-45 "Whilst covering landings during Lingayen Gulf invasion on January 6, 1945, (the ship) was struck by a kamikaze and was hit by 2nd kamikaze 3 days later while close to shore."
