Paul was a POW aboard the Japanese merchant ship Shinyo Maru when it was torpedoed and sunk 7 Sep 44 by the American submarine USS Paddle.
He died as a result of the sinking of the ship by either injuries or was shot while trying to escape the ship. His body was never recovered.

Born Feb. 17, 1910. Enlisted US Navy Feb 24, 1927. Engaged in Bataan siege Dec. 1942. Participated in evacuation of Gen. Macarthur from Corregidor as MM MTB SQ 3. Captured in Battle of Manila Bay. Missing at sea in sinking of Japanese prison transport off Liloy Point, Philippine Islands Sep. 7, 1944.
