Wisconsin National Guardsman who was called to federal service as a member of A Company, 192nd Tank Battalion. At Fort Knox, he was transferred to Hq Company when the company was formed. He became a Prisoner of War when Bataan was surrendered to the Japanese. John took part in the death march and was held at Camp O'Donnell and Cabanatuan POW camps. He died when the Japanese Hell Ship he was on, the Arisan Maru, was sunk by an American submarine. The Japanese allowed the POWs to drown. Only nine POWs of 1803 survived the sinking. His twin brother, Henry, also died when the ship was sunk.
