A father of two, he enlisted March 27, 1944 in Fort Douglas, Utah. He was assigned to the 380th Bombardment Group, 528th Bombardment Squadron. A Gunner Sergeant aboard a B-24J-135-CO aircraft, nicknamed "Bums Away," they took off from San Jose Airfield on Mindoro Island for a bombing mission against Matsuyama Airfield on Formosa. The plane crashed shortly after take-off. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal. His family placed a cenotaph in Calvary Cemetery, Havre, Montana, near his parents.
