Emily, the daughter of Josiah and Catharine Jester was born near East Bend, North Carolina on May 2, 1859. She died near Mooreland May 2, 1923, her age was 64yrs and 1 day.
She was united in marriage to Thomas M. Poindexter on September 15, 1877 (in Yadkin Co., North Carolina). To this union was born two children, Ulysses Poindexter of Mooreland and Symantha Davis who died in Oklahoma.
She moved with her husband to Indiana about twenty-two years ago and with the exception of three years spent in Oklahoma has lived near Blountsville and in the vicinity of Mooreland.
She was a member of the Baptist Church for thirty-five years prior to her death and thus made known to the world her faith in the Great Master of Life. She did not fear death and expressed a willingness to go to the "undiscovered country from whose borne no traveler returns."
She had been a sufferer more or less for twenty-five years. She has found rest at last from pain and sickness and the "Clods of the valley will be sweet unto her."
God has called her unto him and shut the door. She has touched His right hand in the darkness and He will lead her.
She leaves to morn their loss a husband, Thomas; a mother, Catharine Jester; four brothers; two sisters; a son, Ulysses Poindexter; and five grandchildren, Ross, Record and Roy Davis whom she has loved and cherished since the death of her daughter; Ulysses' son Wilbur and daughter Opal.
"We know not where His islands lift their fronded palms in air, we only know we cannot drift beyond His love and care."
