Son of William & Ellen (Nellie) (nee McShane) Abbott. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 8th March 1915 and embarked from Melbournefor overseas on 8th May 1915 per HMAT "Euripides" (A14). He was killed in action, aged 24 years.

24th Battalion Australian Infantry, A.I.F., Service No. 1138

Extract from The Melbourne Argus, Saturday, 29 January 1916 -
"We gave our comrade to our country.
There were those who gave their gold.
Others who gave their treasure,
Service and skill untold.
We had no skill to offer,
We had no wealth to spend,
It was our greatest glory,
To have a comrade to send."
