George G.B.Comer, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Nov. 5, 2007, at the age of 77.

Born May 4, 1930, to George and Dovie White Comer of LaFollette, he was a longtime native of Campbell County, and of the Baptist faith. G.B. was a selfless provider for his family from an early age. As a young child, he worked as a laborer to help support his brothers and sisters after his father passed away.

Never one to shy away from a hard day's work, G.B. worked in the East Tennessee coal mines and as a brick mason and construction laborer. He was a loving father to five children, and a guiding hand to many others. G.B. continued to work as long as he was able, eventually retiring to spend time gardening, fishing, and following Tiger Woods’ golf career. He was an inspiration to many, and will be missed by all. Preceded in death by mother, Dovie Comer; father, George Comer; daughter, Brenda Marple; and sisters, Martha Comer, Nell Jordon, Ruth Riggs, and Jewell Chapman, all of LaFollette.

Survivors are his son, Gary Comer of Clinton; daughters, Debra and husband Kenny Bolton of LaFollette, Valerie Fateley of Clinton, and Patricia and husband Roger Proffitt, also of Clinton; sisters, Betty Heatherly of LaFollette, and Lavon Petree of LaFollette; brothers, Jim Comer and Paul Comer of LaFollette; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

His grandsons Jamie Marple, Jeffery Marple, Dustin Comer, Wesley Comer, Dewayne Gibson and David Gibson will serve as pallbearers.

Receiving of friends will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Holley Gamble with the Rev. Leroy Braden officiating, with interment to follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.
