Alfred M. Gibson was born to John C. Gibson and Rachel Ridge Gibson in Westfield, Bureau Co., Illinois. John C. Gibson was born in New Jersey and Rachel Ridge was born in Tinicum, Pennsylvania. The family moved to Westfield, Bureau, Illinois in 1855, and then to Sheridan, Cherokee Co., Kansas by 1869. His mother's sister, Mary Ridge Rockafeller, also moved to Cherokee, Kansas at about the same time with her husband Agesilaus Jesse Rockafeller. It doesn't appear that Alfred and Annie had any children, but after they moved to Sheridan, they were lifelong residents. Alfred was a farmer. Alfred's father can be found in the Borland Cemetery in Cherokee, Kansas. His brother William Gibson is also buried in Cherokee, Kansas in the Borland Cemetery. His brother Frank is in the Messer Cemetery in Galena, Cherokee Co., Kansas.
