A native of Iowa, he was a resident of Palm Desert for 20 years and was a lab technician at Eisenhower Medical Center.
Mr. Casteel is survived by his sister, Marguerite Hall of Chariton, Iowa and a brother, Michael Casteel of Branson, Mo.
Interment was private.
