Pressley Clark and his family lived in Illinois before coming to Texas in 1856. In Texas he gave his attention to farming and ranching. When war came in 1861 he entered the Confederate Army and served with General Sterling Price at the strategic battle of Corinth in Mississippi. His youngest son, Sterling Price Clark, was named in honor of the Confederate general. After Pressley's return home he resumed farming and stock raising. He died at age 77 and his widow lived with her son until her death.
