Mrs. Alice (Culler) Cobb, widow of the late Maj. John B. Cobb of Macon, died Thursday, February 20th, at her home in Nashville, Tennessee. The interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Macon, Georgia Thursday. About 75 years ago Alice Culler daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Philip Derrill Culler, was born in Perry at their home within 200 yards of the Houston County court house. In 1864 or 1865 she was married to Rev. J. B. Leak, President of Andrew Female College. Of the marriage there was no issue. Mr. Leak lived only a few years after the marriage. Several years later she married Maj. John B. Cobb of Macon. Of this marriage two daughters were born. In an educational and missionary work she reached the highest distinction. For 25 years she was a member of the Wesleyan Female College faculty, and for a period was in control of that institution. For a number of years she was a leading factor in the foreign missionary work of the Methodist Episcopal Church South Afterward she became a member of the Mounteagle Assembly. Though the personal friends of her young life in Perry have nearly all preceded her to the great beyond, yet she is held in affectionate memory by very many of our people. It is a remarkable fact that born here, there is not a near relative now living in Perry.
Surviving her are three grandchildren, Cobb, Mathew and Eugene Pilcher of Nashville, Tennessee, a sister, Miss Mitt Culler, of Nashville, Tennessee, a niece, Miss Mary Culler White, who is a missionary in China. Her life of 75 years was well spent and the world was better because she lived in it. A truly good woman has been called to her eternal reward.
