Gerald Dean "Jerry" Reames of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday afternoon, August 8, 2010, at his home in Blackwell at the age of 84 years.

Gerald Dean "Jerry" Reames was born on August 18, 1925, in Isabella, Oklahoma, to Everett Leroy and Leona (Roark) Reames. He grew up attending schools in Isabella and Fairview, Oklahoma. While a junior in high school entered the United States Army on November 15, 1943, serving during World War II with the 517th Air Service Group as an automotive equipment operator. He was honorably discharged on February 4, 1946. Upon his return from the military he began working as a machine operator for the Gruner Company in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He married Lea Schmidt on August 28, 1948, in Blackwell and they made Blackwell their home. He later began working as the terminal manager for Graves Truck Lines in Tonkawa and Blackwell. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell. He also held memberships in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Blackwell. He enjoyed wood working and is known for making a wooden car he rode in the Blackwell parades. He also enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lea Reames of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a daughter, Diana McKinnis and husband Danny of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a son, John Reames of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Reames Chambers of Blackwell, Oklahoma; a sister, Joyce Dickey and husband Kenneth of Southard, Oklahoma; a brother, Earl Reames and wife Deannie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jerry Lee and Alan Wayne Reames; two brothers, Will and Jack Reames; and a grandson, Bryan Wayne Reames.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 12th in the Blackwell Cemetery with the Rev. Kristen L. Brown of the First United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery with military rites performed by the Blackwell American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
