Sheridan native Josephine Marie Ringley, 78, of Cheney, Wash., died Sunday, April 20, 2003, in Spokane, Wash. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Thursday in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cheney. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday in the church with Father Thomas Caswell as celebrant. Burial will be in Sheridan. Cheney Funeral Home of Cheney is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ringley was born Aug. 8, 1924, in Sheridan to Joseph and Catherine Gariffa. She was a 1943 graduate of Sheridan High School and later worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper. She married Howard D. Ringley June 14, 1947. Mr. Ringley was in the U.S. Air Force, and they traveled to various assignments until 1971, when he retired. Mrs. Ringley served as a Red Cross nursing assistant in military hospitals where the couple were stationed. They moved to Cheney in 1972, and Mrs. Ringley worked as a part-time cashier at Eastern Washington University about 20 years. She was a member and past president of St. Rose of Lima Guild, the Beta Delta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and various bridge groups. She was preceded in death by a son, Howard D. Ringley Jr., six sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her husband; a son, Donald; two daughters, Jean M. Wilkinson and Joyce Anna Colby; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
