Thomas was born the son of parents Thomas and Martha Achenbach, Jr. Thomas served his country honorably and retired from the United States Army. While serving his country in the US Army, he was the bandleader and brass group leader. He also was an expert with the M-14 and M-16 rifles. Thomas was a member of the NRA and enjoyed going to the shooting range and collecting guns. He was a very patriotic man who enjoyed reading history books especially ones about WWII. Thomas was a true lover of cats, dogs and birds, he and his wife spent the last five years feeding the birds every afternoon. He enjoyed listening to jazz music in his quiet time. In Thomas's early years he enjoyed traveling and fishing with his wife. He was a loving and devoted husband who will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 30 years Yoshiko Achenbach; sons, Thomas, Gary and Jeffrey Gold; step-daughters, Angela DeSenze, Toni DeSenze and Jennifer Nelowet and her husband Scott; aunt, Virginia Gumm and granddaughter, Abigail Pham. A graveside Service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 13, 2010 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors. The family ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his memory to Vietnam Veterans of America 8605 Cameron Street Suite 400 Silver Springs, MD.
