Geneva Townes Anderson was born on May 16, 1909 to James and Perlina Townes. She was the fourth of thirteen children and grew up in Chatham, Virginia. She moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1928 and later met and married Jesse Anderson. She was the mother of Alice Townes Perry. Geneva was known for her independence and her take charge personality which made it natural for her to assume the role of matriarch of the family. Geneva departed this life on September 30, 1995. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter; her grandchildren, James Henderson Perry Jr., of Columbia, MO., David Martin Perry of Newark, NJ, Joyce Alander Perry of Miami, FL.; her eight great-grandchildren: Tamara A.Griffin of Fredericksburg, VA, Darryl A. Perry of NYC, Todd A. Perry of Atlanta, GA, Diandre Perry of Newark, NJ, and Brianna, Ryan, Adrianne, and Justin Perry of Columbia, MO; her brothers and sisters: Drucilla Kates, Josephine Kates, Walter Townes, Charles Lesso Townes, Margaret Stewart and Arlene Melette; her seven great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was much loved and will be dearly missed.
