Parents: Alec and Margaret Baird.

Graduated from the Michael Reese School of Nursing in Chicago as a Registered Nurse; she joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. She served in Europe with the 57th Field Hospital, her unit was sent all over Europe and saw many conflicts the most well known was during the Battle of the Bulge in 1945.

Employed by many hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio and Denver, Colorado. After moving to Belen, New Mexico after her husband died she was employed as a prison nurse for the Valencia County Sheriff's Department and when necessary she

Lifetime member of both the VFW and DAV holding many positions in both organizations. Member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bayard for many years.

Survivors: daughter Margo Carlisle of Hereford, Arizona, grandson Sean Chareau of Phoenix, Arizona, granddaughter Kayla Schaffer of Tucson, Arizona, and a great-granddaughter Brianne Chareau of Tucson, Arizona. Sister Betty Satchell of Port Huron, Michigan. Nephews and nieces Charles (Cheri) Satchell of Marysville, Michigan; Drinda (Jerry) Fuss of Mustang, Okla.; Connie (Paul) York of Black Creek, Georgia and Evelyn (Ron) Bentley of Bayard.

Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jack and Bus Baird; husband Ortlieb (Dutch) Schaffer, son Neil Schaffer, son-in-law Bill Carlisle and nephew James J. Satchell.
