Mr. Abney was a graduate of Sprayberry High School and attended Kennesaw College. After serving in the United States Army, he began a 37 year career with Amoco, working in Atlanta, Knoxville, Baltimore and Chicago. In 1993, he was a recepient of a Torch Award under Amoco Oil Company's Torch Award Program.
A man greatly admired by his family and friends, Mr. Abney is survived by his mother, Bessie Adair Abney of Kennesaw; three sisters, Martha Trotter of Ellijay, Linda Williamson of Marietta, and Melba Blackwood of Kennesaw; three brothers, James Abney of Kennesaw, Bob Abney of Kennesaw, and Donald Abney of Waleska. He was predeceased by his father, Paul Abney. Many beloved nieces and nephews also survive him. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery in Marietta.
