Mrs. Sarah P. Terry, widow of Roderick Terry, formerly of this city, died at about 10 o'clock Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Hobart Bronson in Waterbury, of diseases incident to old age. She was in her 83d year and was born in Orange, N.J., the daughter of Dr. William Pierson and Mrs. Margaret Crane Pierson. Her husband, the late Roderick Terry, who died in Orange, was formerly the junior member of the firm of Roderick Terry & Son, who kept a grocery store near the tunnel. The firm subsequently moved to State street and after the senior Terry's death, the junior member formed the firm of Roderick & F. H. Terry, who were in the hardware business. The firm was afterwards R. Terry & Lester and Terry & Cone, which was dissolved and was the predecessor of the present firm of J. H. & W. E. Cone.
Mr. Terry retired from business and afterwards lived in Lyme, Japan and Orange, where he died.
Mrs. Terry had lived in Waterbury for about two years and was for six years previously living in Tokyo, Japan, with her son, Henry T. Terry, professor of law in the Imperial University at Tokyo, who is now in this country on a year's leave of absence, which will expire in the summer, and who was with his mother when she died.
Mrs. Terry was a sister of the late Mrs. William Collins of this city. She leaves three children, Henry T. Terry, Miss Jane E. Terry of New York, and Mrs. Edith H. Bronson, the wife of J. Herbert Bronson, president of the Oakville Pin Company of Waterbury. There are five grandchildren. Two of Mrs. Terry's children are dead. Anna P., the wife of Charles G. Barlett, principal of the Black Hall School at Lyme, who died in 1894(?); and Harriet C., the wife of Rev. T. P. Prudden of Newton Center, Mass., who died in 1886.
Mrs. Terry's funeral will be attended at the Northam Memorial Chapel at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon and the interment will be in the family lot at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
