This young couple met an untimely death when the gas oven in their garage apartment was left on at 500 degrees after he got up to fix toast for breakfast before going to work but laid back down and dozed off. When found, she was still wearing her night clothes and he was fully dressed, as if ready to go to work. His employers at Daniel Sheet Metal Works in Atlanta called his parents to find out why he had not come to work that day. His father went to their apartment and found them. According to the police report, the incident was "purely accidental".

Dobson, U.S. Army, Germany; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Florence Arrington, Marietta; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dobson, Fyffe, Ala.; several aunts and uncles."
