Mary Elizabeth Blakely was born in Whitley County, Ind., Dec. 23, 1849.
She grew to womanhood in the county where she was born, and was united in marriage to Martin V. Boggs, in Christian Chapel at Noblesville, Ind., Jan. 16, 1868. They came to Kansas in 1881.
The family lived on a farm five miles northeast of Douglass until 1902, when they came to Douglass, and Mrs. Boggs has lived here since that time. Mr. Boggs died in 1918.
To them were born eleven children. Two children passed away in infancy. Surviving the mother are Miss Nellie Boggs, Walter Boggs and Ralph Boggs of Douglass; Mrs Will Bates, Augusta; Mrs. Bert Sutton, Culver City, Calif.; Mrs. Nettie Parker, Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs. Florence Smith, Los Angeles, Calif.; Miss Goldie Boggs, Los Angeles, Calif., and Bert Boggs, Rogers, N.Mex.
Mrs. Boggs joined the Christian Church in Indiana when she was a young woman, and remained in that church until she came to Kansas when she placed her membership in the Methodist Church, to which organization she belonged at the time of her death.
For a number of weeks she had suffered the afflications that oftern accompany old age, until at last she quietly fell asleep.
She leaves to mourn her departure the children above mentioned, and a brother, Amos Whitney and his family, other relatives and many friends and acquaintances.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist Church in Douglass, conducted by Rev. George Watts. Burial was in the Douglass Cemetery, in charge of the Hilyard Funeral Home.
Appropriate music was furnished by Mrs. P. R. Guyot and Mrs, J. A. Bare, with Mrs. C. A. Ogg at the organ.
