OLIVER AKERS
Oliver and Clara Belle Akers came to Kinsley in the early 1900's. Mr. and Mrs. Akers and their two sons, Carl and Millard, lived in a small house located on the northeast corner of the Northside School yard. Mr. Akers was a carpenter.

After Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Akers moved away Millard came back and attended Normal Institute under Professor Baugher in 1910. Millard Akers married Julla Ethel White of Liberal on November 6, 1910. They homesteaded in Baca County, Colorado. They were the parents of Richard Akers of Elkhart, Alfred Akers of Kinsley, Fannie Goldy of Wichita, Nellie Turner of Kinsley, Arlene (wife of Rev. Morris Mauch) of Brooking, South Dakota and Don of Dodge City. Mr. Akers was a carpenter and minister. Nellie Akers married Roy Turner and they have four children: Linda is married to Joe Jackson and they have one child and live at Rosedale, Indiana; Connie McGinnes lives at Derby and has flve chlidren; Merle C. is married, lives at Independence, Missouri and attends Osteopathy College; Brenda is at home and attends Baptist Bible College at Springfield, Missouri. The Turner family moved here from Emporia in 1955 and both worked at Larned State Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred M. Akers have a son, Verie. He is married, has three children and operates Akers Men's Wear at Ashland, Kansas. The Akers family moved to Kinsley from a farm near Satanta in 1948. Al's Clothing Store has been in business here for 25 years.
