"CAPT WILLIAM H SCOTT, a native of Canada, and was born at Brockville, Ontario on Feb. 7, 1843 and came to Marine City with his parents in 1850. He began sailing in 1861 on the brig Preble. The following year, he enlisted in the navy and served on the United States steamer St Clair and United States steamer Avenger. He was boatswain's mate and served about 3 years. After the war he returned to Marine City and sailed during the summer season. In winter, he worked at the trade of ship carpenter. In 1870 he sailed master of JA Smith, then sailed the Katie Brainard 2 seasons, also sailed the Troy and the Grace Holland for 2 seasons, has sailed master of the Isabel Reed. During winter, he was foreman of repairs in Lester's ship yard. Capt Scott has sailed for the T & ST Co since 1872 and is a stockholder in the company. In 1866 Capt. Scott married Miss Eleanor Williams a native of St. Clair county. They had 3 children: James W, Arthur J, and Henry M."

His second wife was Arvilla Lauretta Bonney whom he married in 1905.
