ROCCO, Santo J. "Sandy" On Wednesday, (February 9, 2005) Santo J. "Sandy" Rocco, 80, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at his New Britain residence. Born in New Britain on July 8, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nancy (Mazzotta) Rocco, and was a lifelong resident here. Mr. Rocco served our country with great pride in the United States Army during World War II from 1943-1946. Prior to retirement, he was a self employed auto mechanic for over 30 years. He was also actively involved in auto racing throughout his entire life, especially supporting his children and grandchildren in their racing efforts, as well as attending many NASCAR events out of state with his wife and children. Additionally, he was a communicant of St. Ann Church, and held membership with various clubs and associations serving the Calabria MIA Society, Columbian Federation, and Italian American War Veterans. Mr. Rocco was predeceased by a brother Frank Rocco of New Britain. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (Littlefield) Rocco, his sons, Ronald Rocco with his wife Zunilda of Wallingford, Joseph "Jay" Rocco with his wife Rosa, and Robert Rocco with his wife Boni, of Plainville; a daughter Sandra Rocco of Plainville; two step daughters, Lynn Schreiner with her husband David, and Lori Shirley with her husband James, all of Berlin; his grandchildren, Scott with his wife Lynne of NC, Jeff and Keith of Wallingford, Jacob and Alyssa of Plainville, and Katie, Kristopher, Samantha, and Tyler of Berlin; a great granddaughter Kylie; a brother-in-law Ronnie Littlefield of Middletown; his sisters-in-law, Chris Tsiokas of Puyallup, WA and Pauline Rocco of Old Lyme, and a special thanks to his friends Harry DiBenedetto and Pete Parker who were so helpful with his care giving. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 14, at 8:30 a.m., from New Britain Memorial – Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, with a 9:30 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Ann Church. Rites of Committal will follow the Mass at Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are scheduled for Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
