Mrs. Abney was born April 11, 1935 in Lufkin, Texas, the daughter of the late Effie Alberta (Jones) and Carl Kennedy, Sr. She passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 in a Nacogdoches hospital.
Mrs. Abney was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was retired from Nederland ISD as a teacher. She was a 20-year member of Pollok Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her sons, David Abney and Wilson Abney; grandson, Damien Gasper; granddaughters, Toscha Sponsler and Toni Sponsler; grandson, Jacob Abney; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Warrner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Abney was preceded in death by her husband, Ray R. Abney; 1 son; 1 daughter; and 2 brothers.
Services are in the care of Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home.
