She was born October 2, 1905 in Stirling, Alberta, Canada, to Louis Ami and Lydia Chadwick Zaugg. She was one of eleven children who was taught the principles of hard work, honesty and integrity. She served a New England States Mission.
In 1937, Mary became a naturalized citizen and was proud of this country and her citizenship. Her work history included being employed by Utah Poultry. She went on to graduate from Stevens Henager College.
After graduation, she became a medical secretary at LDS Hospital, where she met Dr. Silas Schwartz Smith. They were married on August 27, 1956 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Mary served in many church callings throughout her life, including a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple. Mary loved her Savior and her family.
She is survived by: a brother, Howard Zaugg, Paradise, California; sister-in-law, Mrs. Grant (Arvella) Zaugg, South Jordan; step-daughter, Mrs. Howard G. (Carol) Smith, Salt Lake City, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren (great and great-greats).
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street (100 East), Murray, Utah, with a viewing from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
