Mazie Blizzard Dempsey Bradshaw passed away on January 5, 2010, at the age of 83.

Mazie was born to George and Ella Mae Blizzard on October 16, 1926, in Rocky Mount, NC. She married Snyder C. Dempsey in 1945, and the couple moved to Teachey, NC, in 1947, where they raised their family.

She was a woman of many talents, and some of the family's fondest memories are of family gatherings and the wonderful home-cooked meals she prepared. She loved to cook with vegetables she had grown in her own garden. She never met a vegetable that she couldn't can, freeze or pickle, and she loved sharing them with everyone. She was also an accomplished seamstress, making everything from her children's clothing when they were young to the curtains in their homes when they grew up. One of her greatest joys was quilting. She created many beautiful quilts for family and friends and sold her needlework and quilts throughout the state.

Mazie led a very busy and productive life, and the family often joked that she ran on electricity. She never seemed to run out of energy. She loved family gatherings, and particularly looked forward to the Dempsey family reunions held each fall. Her family greatly values the lifetime of memories that she left with them.

In addition to her parents, Mazie is predeceased by her husbands, Snyder C. Dempsey and H.E. Bradshaw, sisters Eunice Todd and Edith Thompson.

She is survived by a large and loving family including her sons and daughters, Herbert Dempsey and wife Jacquelyn of Cary, NC, Claudia Chew and husband Swiss of Wilmington, Pansy Amerson and husband Roy of Hopkinsville, KY, Harry Dempsey and wife Allison of Bryant, AK, Jerry Dempsey and wife Susan of Teachey, NC; her brother, Donald Blizzard and wife Gladys of Rocky Mount, NC; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Christie Dooley and sons Corey and Andrew of Wilmington, Carrie Davis, and husband Logan, and son Landon, of Lexington, KY, James H. Dempsey, Jr. of Cary, NC; Ryan Amerson and wife Nicole of Hopkinsville, KY, Sarah C. Dempsey of Boston, MA, Kelly S. Dempsey of Teachey, NC, Christian Chew and wife Melanie and sons Noah and Seth and Justin Chew and wife Rebekah and daughter Camille of Boone, NC.

A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 8, 2010, at Padgett Funeral Chapel, Wallace, NC, conducted by Rev. Richard Phillips. Burial will follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.
