She was born May 11, 1920, to Hjalmer and Mabel (Holm) Augustson at Battleview, N.D. She moved to Battle Lake in l921, and attended Country School 72, and graduated from Washington High School in St. Paul in 1936. She enjoyed working with Nelson Tax Service and had also been employed by the Battle Lake School for a number of years
On Sept. 18, 1943, she married Hector O. Eklund. They farmed the Eklund farm until retirement and then moved into Battle Lake. She spent her last years at the Garrett Lee House in Henning.
Elsie enjoyed sewing, baking, quilting and playing cards. She was active in the Eagle Lake Church Sunday School, LCW, and Church Council. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
She is survived by two sons, Don (Norma) Eklund of Elizabeth and Steve (Teresa) Eklund of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Eloise Eklund of Maple Grove; four grandchildren: Kathy (Randy) Nordick of Rothsay, Michelle (Dean) Hatlestad of Fergus Falls and their children Derek and Branden Hatlestad, Mark (Stacy) Eklund of Fergus Falls and their children, Madysen, Thea and Ava Eklund and Mike Eklund, Portland, Ore.; and a brother-in-law, Orvey Eklund, Holiday Island, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hector on June 12, 2003; five sisters, Dorothy, Violet, Lenore, Lucille and Elaine; and one brother, Wendell.
Visitation: Friday from 4 to 6 p.m., with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m., at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church, rural Battle Lake
