Robert G. "Dutch" Bruning, 82, of Viola, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Aledo Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Family Funeral Services, Viola. Burial is in Viola Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

He was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Toulon, son of William and Ruth Fletcher Bruning. He married Dorothy Anderson April 8, 1939, in Davenport. They were married for 60 years. She died Oct. 29, 1999.

He worked for Illinois Power, Aledo, for 32 years, retiring in 1983.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, Viola.

Dutch was an avid hobbyist and collector and enjoyed the people he met who shared his interests. He also enjoyed music, golf, sports, travel, bingo and spending time with his family.

Survivors (and spouses) include his daughters, Rosis (Bernie) Tholl, LaPeer, Mich., Kathy (Denny) Reible, Madison, Wis., and Debbie Britton, Polk City, Iowa; sons, Ron (Judy) Bruning, Tinley Park, Ill., Dave (Lori) Bruning, Matherville, Scott Bruning, Stoughton, Wis., and John Kennedy (Melissa) Bruning, Seaton; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters; and his beloved poodle, Candi Lee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, three brothers, three sisters and two well-loved poodles.
