She was born August 29, 1916 in Buckingham County, a daughter of the late John Andrew and Lizzie (Jamerson) Shumaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Ancell Newton; three brothers Richard, Walter and John; and two sisters, Rosa and Anna Mae.
Mrs. Newton was a member of Scottsville Baptist Church and was retired from Uniroyal-Goodrich. She loved animals, flowers, gardening, canning and greatly enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Aunt Lou was a hardworking and generous person who was known and loved by all.
Survivors include a number of cousins, nieces and nephews, and her caregivers, Alicia Johnson, Linda Napier, and Rene Steele.
A funeral service was conducted Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville by the Rev. James C. Jetton.
The viewing was Wednesday, August 18, 2010, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
