James F. Batten

A 40-year Camas resident, James Frank Batten, 62, died of cancer in Camas Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998. He was a retired maintenance supervisor at the James River paper mill in Camas.
Born April 12, 1935, in Ivanhoe, Texas, Mr. Batten moved to Camas in 1957 to work at the paper mill. He retired from the mill in 1997. Mr. Batten was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association and also built fiddles.
Two sons, Eddie Dean and Jimmy Dale, and a granddaughter, Donna Batten, all preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, at home; one daughter, Vicki Collins of Camas; two sons, Mike and Steve, both of Camas; six brothers, Doug, Clois and Charles, all of Camas, Bill of Carson, Keith of Washougal and Troy of Vancouver; three sisters, Joy Chadwick of Vancouver, Wanda Box of Washougal and Dottie Barney of Florida; and 14 grandchildren.
A funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Community Church in Washougal, with burial in Fern Prairie Cemetery in Camas. The casket will be open until 5 tonight at Straubs Funeral Home in Camas.
