Mrs. Earnest was born on Oct. 6, 1921 in Peru, Ind., the daughter of the late Bob and Sylvia Gilbert. She married Richard E. Earnest on July 14, 1940. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1999.
She retired from Dana as a shipping foreman in 1978. She worked in the Grant County Clerk's Office with absentee voters for every election from 1984 until 2004.
Mrs. Earnest was a member of the Central Christian Church where she was a deaconess, Phi Khi Epsilon Sorority, American Legion Auxiliary, Republican Women, ABWA and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son, John L. (Linda) Earnest, and one daughter, Cheryl A. Wiggs, both of Marion; grandchildren, Dane King, Christine King, Catherine Bartz, Gretchan (Matthew) Liston, John R. (Alexis) Earnest, Meredith Earnest, Ryan Earnest; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Bettie Mitchner.
Services were Friday in Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, Marion. Burial was made in Grant Memorial Park, Marion.
