A native of Rock Mills, Randolph County Alabama, Mrs. Allen was the daughter of the late Carlos Grady Bennett and Kate Pearl Yarborough. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Robert Edwin Allen and son, Robert Eugene Allen.
Mrs. Allen was a former member of Dunean and Washington Avenue Baptist Church. More recently she attended Donaldson Church of God.
Surviving are three sons, Charles E. Allen and wife, Ophelia, of Greenville, Donald R. Allen and wife, Harriett, of Fountain Inn and Grady F. Allen and wife, Deborah, of Columbia; two daughters, Joyce J. Nalley and husband, Marvin, of Spartanburg and Barbara J. Clark of Hickory Tavern, SC; two sisters, Dorothy L. Carter and Agnes I. Sjolund of Easley; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to McCall Hospice House, 1836 W. Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel officiated by the Reverend Dr. Marshall D. Williams. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, West.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the emergency staff of St. Francis Hospital, Downtown, the ICU and third floor staff of St. Francis, Eastside and the staff of The McCall Hospice House of Simpsonville.
