Civil War Veteran: A 20 year old shoemaker from Stoneham, Massachusetts, he enlisted as a Private on April 16, 1861 and was mustered in to Company L, 6th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment on April 22, 1861. He was mustered out of Company L on August 2, 1861 in Boston, Massachusetts.
He then enlisted and was mustered in to Company D, 33rd Massachusetts Infantry Regiment on August 7, 1862. He was promoted to Full Sergeant on July 17, 1862, 1st Lieutenant on June 3, 1863 and Captain (of Company B) on September 18, 1864.
He was wounded on June 16, 1864 at Lost Mountain, Georgia and was mustered out of Company D on June 11, 1865.
