Pvt. Sparkman, Casual Co. #2, died in the torpedoing & sinking of the troopship "Tuscania" on 5 February 1918 in the North Channel between Scotland & Ireland by German submarine UB-77.

He was first buried at Port Charlotte, isle of Islay, Scotland, in grave 36. His body was returned to the U.S. aboard the "Antigone" in August 1920.

On the "Tuscania," he listed his mother, Mrs. Rosa M. Watson, of Frisco, Texas, as his next-of-kin.
