Albany Argus Friday December 17th 1813:
Distressing Accident: On Monday last in a small building erecetd near the Arsenal in the Colonie, for the purpose of preparng cartridges, by some accident took fore and blew up, by which three boys were killed and several persons wounded.

William Babbitt and his brother, Alonzo, were 2 of the boys killed in this accident. Their burial place is unknown, but it is felt they are buried at the Arsenal, in Albany, New York. There are about 8 "unknown" graves there and a few of them are children. There was a poem written by Silas Ballou, about the explosion and the death of these children. Research has shown this poem was read at William and Alonzo's funeral, by their father, Deacon James Babbitt.
