Arthur William Bushnell was born in Cement, OK on May 14, 1906 to Charles Henry Sawyer and Sarah Love Sawyer Bushnell and was the second of eight children. Arthur went to school and grew to manhood in Cement, OK.

On June 23, 1928 at the age of 22, Arthur married Opal Lorene Dawson in Fletcher, OK and on June 6, 1929 Opal gave birth to their only child, Elva June. Arthur and his family lived in western OK for two years and he operated a grocery store in Fletcher in 1937 before moving to Weed, CA where he began working in a large lumbar factory.

On May 6, 1942 just days before turning 36 after a short illness, Arthur died of an infection that affected his heart. Arthur’s brothers helped Opal and Elva June return Arthur’s body by train to Fletcher, OK. The train was met in El Reno, OK by Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Dawson, Mrs. Jack Nix and little son, Dee, Miss Willie Skinner, John Wisener Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Conley Wilson, Mrs. Earl Lemons, Glen Dawson, Mrs. Charles H. Bushnell, and Lloyd Dawson. Arthur’s father, Mr. Charles H. Bushnell, was injured on May 14, 1942 and was being cared for in a Chickasha hospital.

Funeral services were conducted in the Fletcher Baptist Church by Rev. C. D. Farmer. Interment was made in the Fletcher Cemetery with the Wisener Funeral Home in charge.

Arthur was survived by his wife and daughter, Opal Lorene and Elva June Bushnell, and his father and mother, Charles Henry and Sarah Love Sawyer Bushnell, of Fletcher. Also surviving were five sisters Mrs. Esther Lemons of Fletcher, Mrs. Alice Sawyer of Cement, Mrs. Ione King of Ventura, CA, Mrs. Hazel Graham of Exeter, CA., and Miss Maudie Pauline Bushnell of Cement, and three brothers, James of Saticoy, CA, Walter of Parker, AZ, and George of Gardena, CA.
