Peter W. Lukasak

EAST CHINA Peter Woodrow Lukasak died on October 23, 2005, at the age of 88.
He was born to Polish immigrants Simon and Josephine Lukasak in Detroit on June 10, 1917. Orphaned as a young boy, he lived in several St. Clair area homes: Charles and Anna Eisen, Ada Canning, and Minnie Mitchell.
Having to support himself after age 16, he found employment on Great Lakes shipping lines, but returned to St. Clair in 193738 to complete his high school education. His working career included 13 years sailing the Great Lakes, many on the Reiss Line and the BobLo boats. Later years he worked at Biewers and Blue Water Plastics until retirement. Volunteer activities included 4H, Boy Scouts, pastoral visitations, and rehab aide at River District Hospital, the Salvation Army, the Ecumenical Pantry, Pport Huron MidCity Nutrition meal service, area museums, Lutheran Brotherhood and Master Gardeners. He was active in St. Peter Lutheran Church serving on Council, various committees, and spending many hours working on the flower beds. Other joys in life included spending time with his family, serving God by helping others, growing roses that his wife shared with shutins, and gave out Lifesavers and raisins to children.
Married to Loretta Thueme on January 10, 1948, they birthed three children, adopted two, and opened their home to various others over the years. He is survived by his wife, children Roger (Brenda) St. Clair, Linda (Warren) Canal Winchester, Ohio, Patrick (Kathy) Hackettstown, New Jersey, Frederick (Shella) Bardwell, Texas, and Chaplain Audrey, Rochester, Minnesota. Additionally, he is loved and remembered by 14 grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, his brother Simon (Lakeland, Florida), sistersinlaw Irene Lukasak, Ilean Labuhn (Rev. Gerald), Doris Thueme, brotherinlaw David Claek, and many nieces and nephews.
