A. M. Pyburn Succumbs to Illness Here – Prominent Attorney Dies at Age 59

Aubrey M. Pyburn, 59, prominent Shreveport attorney and former assistant district attorney in the U.S. western district of Louisiana here, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in a local hospital after a short illness.

Pyburn sustained a heart attack some years ago but had been ill only a relatively short time at the time of his death.

He was a member of the law firm Pyburn and Pyburn here, and was a leader in civic affairs. He was for some time Shreveport city attorney and assistant district attorney in the Caddo district court.

Pyburn, a native of Gansville, had served as president of the Shreveport Bar Association and was chairman of the charter commission which drafted the city charter of Shreveport which was adopted in 1950.

Pyburn made his home at 521 Wilder Place.

The Shreveport civil leader was a member of the Lowe-McFarlane Post [14] of the American Legion here and a member of the 40 and 8 Club. He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and received his law degree at Tulane University.

Immediately after his graduation from Tulane University, he served as secretary to Justice Sommerville of the Louisiana supreme court.

He served in World War I and upon his discharge was a chief petty officer in the United States Navy.

He was a member of the official board of directors of the First Methodist Church.

He was born in Gansville, Winn Parish on Aug. 7, 1893.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Irene Johnson Pyburn of Shreveport; two daughters, Mrs. Jack Terza of Monroe, and Mrs. C. C. Schober III of Shreveport; his mother, Mrs. D. M. Pyburn of Ruston; four sisters, Mrs. E. S. Foster of Jonesboro, Miss Helen Pyburn of Hammond, Miss Mary Sue Pyburn of Ruston, and Miss Nita K. Pyburn of Tallahassee, Fla.; four brothers, DeWitt Pyburn of Baton Rouge, Dwight D. Pyburn of Shreveport, Hiram C. Pyburn of Ruston and Keith M. Pyburn of Shreveport.

Funeral services will be held sometime Monday, but complete arrangements are pending at the Osborn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Aubrey M. Pyburn, 59, of 521 Wilder Place, prominent Shreveport attorney who died in a local hospital Saturday after a short illness will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Osborn Funeral Home Chapel.

Dr. Guy M. Hicks, pastor of the First Methodist Church and Dean R. E. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be L. F. Clawson, William H. Cook, Howard Crumley, Charlton H. Lyons, Sr., Brown McCullough, D. H. Perkins, Marvin E. Pollard, W. Willard Smith, J. Tom Tanner and Reid Wherritt.
