OBITUARY: Presque Isle County Advance, Vol 120, #46, Thurs., 11/12/1998

George E. "Rasty" Patzer, 71 Years, 8 Months, 27 Days, died Saturday, November 7, at Northern Michigan Hospital (Petoskey). The son of Robert and Helena (Grambau) Patzer, he was born February 11, 1927, Rogers City.

During summer vacation of his later high school years he began working in the engine department of the Bradley Transportation vessels. Following his graduation from Rogers City High School in 1945 he entered the U.S. Army and served with the Occupation Forces of Germany at the end of World War II.

After his discharge in 1947 he resumed work on the Bradley ships and became a licensed engineer in 1950 and later chief engineer. He spent 21 years on the Great Lakes freighters until accepting an engineer's position on the Calcite Harbor tugs where he worked an additional nine years.

He also purchased the Osborn Model Laundry in 1970 and operated the business until his retirement in 1990.

He and Lois L. Brege were married October 27, 1951, at Immanuel Ev Lutheran Church in Moltke. She preceded him in death August 31, 1985.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3209, American Legion Post 0121, the Rogers City Masonic Lodge 493 and the Rogers City Servicemen's Club.

He married Mary Faulk October 27 at his home and she survives.

Also surviving are:
...a daughter , Joan (Michael) Grohowski of Grand Lake;
...two granddaughters;
...two grandsons;
...a brother, Robert of Barton City;
...a sister, Lucille Batterman of Madison, Wisconsin; and
...several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
...two sisters: Ila Rosato and Esther Pizzo; and
...five brothers: Harold, Russell, Ralph, Norman and William Patzer.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of the Bill Brietzke Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery,
