COAL TOWNSHIP — Bruce M. Brabitz, 61, of 1429 Wabash St., passed away after a short illness at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, while in the company of family members at his home.

He was born April 5, 1949, in Shamokin, the son of Martin "Mike" Brabitz, of Roslyn, and the late Joan (Deitrich) Brabitz. On July 4, 1970, in Abington, he married the former Beth Johnston, who survives.

Bruce served in the Navy for 17 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was employed as a truck driver for Abington Township, Montgomery County.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by four children, Bruce Brabitz Jr. and his wife, Dawn, of Delaware, Tara Brabitz, of Catawissa, Carrie Brabitz, of Shamokin, and Brandon Brabitz, at home; seven grandchildren, Rebecca and Abby Brabitz, of Delaware, Harley Zimmerman, River and Blaze Brabitz, of Catawissa, and Ivy Savidge and Dahlia Brabitz, of Shamokin; and two sisters, Sue Barszowski, of Horsham, and Tracey Montanari, of Quakertown.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Kay Brabitz.

A celebration of life casual get-together of family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Brady Fire Company, 700 Maple St., Ranshaw.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Bruce's memory to the Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library, 201 E. Independence St., Shamokin, PA 17872.

Arrangements were entrusted to the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.
