William F. "Billy" Watson

Billy Watson, 68, of Dustin's Lane, Afton, Virginia, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, August 19, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on November 17, 1941, in Waynesboro, Virginia, the son of the late Vernon and Marie Dean Watson.

Billy was a member of the Church of the Blue Ridge at Afton, Virginia. He was a devoted husband, Dad, and Grandpa and always put his family first. He will always be remembered for his incredible courage and faith.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by a special little grandson, Dustin Scott Watson, who he always called his "Little Buddy".

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 45 years, Zelma (Campbell) Watson. She was always by his side with her love and support. His two sons, Kevin S. Watson and his wife, Donna, of Staunton, Virginia, and Casey Watson and his wife, Nancy, of Afton, Virginia; and his granddaughter, Sierra Watson, whom he called "Bubba" and so dearly loved and was so proud of. His eyes would always sparkle with pride when he spoke her name. He also leaves his little dog "Carly" who will surely miss him.

He is survived by his only brother, Jimmy Watson and his wife, Patti, of Verona, Virginia; a sister, Vernie Bennett and her husband, Ralph, of Lyndhurst, Virginia. Billy is also survived by aunt, Vivian Dean, many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He worked at Basic Witz Furniture, later known as Stanley Furniture. He also worked many years at Crompton Shenandoah. Billy loved helping people and volunteered many years at Rockfish Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. where he earned a Lifetime Membership.

Billy had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, motorcycle riding, cutting firewood, gardening and feeding and watching birds. After retirement he would still get up early and sit on the porch with his coffee to absorb the morning beauty.

Funeral services will be held at church of the Blue Ridge, Afton, Virginia, 2 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010. Burial will follow at Hebron Baptist Church in Afton, Virginia.
