Joe A. Rains of 119 Bank Street died at 2 o'clock this morning in St. Joseph Hospital where he was taken yesterday. He had been ill for the last two weeks.
A resident of Keokuk for 50 years he was born March 15, 1869 in Anderson, Indiana, the son of John B. and Elizabeth Foster Rains.
On October 16, 1926 he married Elizabeth Scarborough in Carthage, Illinois. She preceded him in death December 18, 1940.
Surviving are a brother James Rains of Cleveland, Ohio and nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were three sisters, Mrs. Mary Billings, Mrs. Sarah Gerhardt and Mrs. Lydia Luft and four brothers, William, Charles, Ora and August.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Schmidt Memorial Home with the Rev. N. Grier Hills officiating. Burial will be in the Combs Cemetery at Luray, Missouri.
