My wonderful grandmother had a heart of gold, and she is still missed. She met my grandfather when working as a camp cook for his gold-mining operation in Alaska. Living in Alaska in the '30s, she had to hold her own in the wild -- to the point that she killed in a brown bear that was heading to attack the cabin where she and her children were. But despite her toughness, she was warm and loving -- a favorite of all her grandkids. Sadly, Grandma passed away from a massive heart attack in 1971.
