Evening times-Republican, Marshalltown, Iowa August 06, 1910 Gilman Pioneer Dead Henry J. Vosburg, Fifty Years resident of the County, Sucoumbs [sic] to Stroke of Apoplexy – Well-Known Citizen and Member of Masonic Fraternity – Funeral Sunday. Death at 11 o’clock Friday night claimed Henry J. Vosburg, of Gilman, a well-known retired farmer of the southern part of the county, and one of the early settler of Greencastle Township. Mr. Vosburg’s death was due to a stroke of apoplexy suffered on Tuesday. He rallied slightly from the shock, but on Wednesday became worse and unconscious, and remaining in a camatose [sic] state most of the time until his death. Mr. Vosburg settled in Greencastle Township, on a farm three and one-half miles northeast of Gilman, about fifty years ago. He retired about twenty years ago and since that time has lived in Gilman. Mr. Vosburg was about 80 years old. Aside from his aged wife Mr. Vosburg is survived by three children—W.H. Vosburg, of Gilman; Mrs. R.A. Dunkle, wife of the postmaster at Gilman; and Mrs. Nellie Ward, of Gilman, widow of the late Dr. J.J. Ward, of Gilman. Mrs. Ward has been spending the summer at her cottage at Arnold’s Park, Lake Okoboji, and her sister had been with her for the past few weeks. Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Dunkle reached Gilman Friday night. Mr. Vosburg is also survived by one brother, A.J. Vosburg of Gilman. Mr. Vosburg was a member of the Cyrus Masonic lodge, of Gilman, and the fraternity will have charge of the burial rites, which will be observed in the Gilman cemetery following the funeral, which will be held in the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
