Jesus R. Abad, 77, of Bremerton died Sunday in Seattle.
He was born in Mangatarem, Pangastinan, Philippines, to Lino and Francisca Abad. He married Remedios "Med" (Zabala) Abad on Oct. 28, 1957 in Manila.
Mr. Abad served in the Navy for 27 years as a Seabee from 1952-1979. He served two tours in Vietnam, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation. He achieved the rank of chief.
After his Navy service, Mr. Abad attended Seattle University, graduating with a bachelor of arts in public administration in 1983.
He worked 11 years for the Postal Service before retiring in 1991.
Mr. Abad was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in East Bremerton.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002.
He is survived by sons Richard and Douglas, both of Burien; daughter Eleanor Ficca and her husband, John, of Gig Harbor; and one grandchild, David of Gig Harbor.
A rosary will be said nightly beginning at 6 through Monday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1516 Fifth St. in Bremerton.
