Chet was the son of Howard Livingston(e) Isbell and his first wife Lilian Spring.
He married Carolyn Andrew in Naugatuck in 1924. They had three children together:
John Howard Isbell
Chester Parsons Isbell Jr.
Carol Isbell Johnson Rosekelly

Chet died of a massive stroke as he and his wife Carolyn were leaving to drive to their summer home in Quonochontaug, Rhode Island
