Moses M Nesbit and wife Catherine were the parents of this John Maxwell Nesbit as evidenced in the court records of Nov 1836 when Catherine is first mentioned as the widow of Moses Nesbit. Then in guardianship papers May 1839, her children are listed, Jane Isabella Nesbit, Mary Emeline Nesbit, John Maxwell Nesbit, Dovey Amanda Nesbit, Ross McLelland Nesbit and Elizabeth Euphemia Nesbit, orphans of Moses Nesbit, dec'd.

John Maxwell Nesbitt was married lst to Melvina Glover (1829-1858) on December 22, 1852. They had one child, Mary Jane Nesbitt born about 1854. She married July 25, 1872 to Joseph (Little John) Woodard born 1848.
