Funeral for Loma E. Akers King, of Canadian, Texas, will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home of Fletcher Chapel with Mrs. King’s son-in-law, the Rev. George Clymer, and the Rev. Scott Carper officiating.
Burial will be in Fletcher Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
Loma E. Akers King, age 90, passed from her life Sunday, July 24, 2016, in Amarillo, Texas. Mrs. King was born July 4, 1926, to Bud and Velma Akers in rural Elgin, Okla. She was a lifelong resident of Fletcher and attended the Fletcher School. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Cyril Hospital and Clinic, Cyril Nursing Home and Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Okla. She also managed the 5 & Dime store in Apache, Okla. Mrs. King attended the Assembly of God Church in Fletcher. Since 2009, she was a resident of the Wheeler Care Center in Wheeler, Texas, and then the Abraham Memorial Home in Canadian.
Mrs. King married her beloved husband, Floyd King, also a lifelong Fletcher resident, in 1947. They were married for more than 60 years before his passing in 2011. Together they raised five children and also cared for numerous foster children in their home. Mrs. King loved music and played piano for the other care home residents.
She is survived by her four daughters, Karen Clymer and husband George of Fletcher, OK., Sharon Roberts and husband Lon of Plano, TX, Fran Hendley and husband Bob of Lexington, OK., and Tamie Fiel and husband Randy of Canadian, TX; one son, Andy King of Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her father and mother; 4 brothers, Obel Tomlin, Cecil Tomlin, Price Akers and Jack Akers; and one grandson, Shane Sawyer.
The family requests memorial donations to the Abraham Memorial Home Activities Fund, 803 Birch St., Canadian, TX 79014.
