The obituary for John W. Vest stated that he had died Mar. 24 at his home in Shelbyville. For many years Mr. Vest was a resident of Ash Grove township, moving to Shelbyville a few years earlier where he had charge of the Elks' Home. He was born in Lawrence County, Ind., Mar. 8, 1855. He was a son of the late James and Lavina Vest. In 1880 he married Miss Cordelia Price and to this union five children were born. They were Mrs. Mollie Lemons, Mrs. Ella Hall, Mrs. Flora Duncan, Walter Vest; one daughter, Elsie dying in young girlhood. Besides the widow and children, there were also two grandchildren; brother, Jacob Vest of Shelbyville; sister, Frieda Vest, of Shelbyville; sister, Mrs. Lida Rush of Chanute, Kansas and a half-brother, N. A. Larimer also of Chanute, Kansas. Funeral and burial services were at Ash Grove church. Windsor Gazette - 30 Mar 1922
