G. H. Wellington Claimed By Death
George H. Wellington died at his home, 826 South Tenth street, Sunday morning at 11:40 o'clock after an illness of three years.
Mr. Wellington was born July 15, 1853, at Ottawa, Ill., where he spent his early life. He came to Lafayette in 1887 and was employed for many years as a traveling salesman for the O. W. Peirce company. Later he entered the employ of George R. Durgan as piano salesman and retained that position until the break in his health about eight years ago. At one time he served as constable in this city. Mr. Wellington was a member of Lafayette Lodge No. 15, I. O. O. F., and of Lafayette Lodge No. 51, Knights of Pythias. He was also for many years a member of the First Baptist church.
In 1876 Mr. Wellington was married to Carrie R. Gilbert and to this union were born two children: Mrs. Nellie Ridgely, who died in 1904, and Gilbert R. Wellington, of Lafayette. Surviving him are his widow; one son, Gilbert R.; four grandchildren; four brothers, Charles of Clymers, Ind.; John, of Chicago; Fred, of Omaha, and James, of New York; two sisters, Mrs. W. B. Smith, of Philadelphia, and Miss Jessie Wellington, of Goodland, Ind.
The funeral will be held from the home Tuesday at 2 p. m., Rev. Charles T. Goodsell, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be at Springvale.
